Memorandum to: The Earl of West Dhaka
From: The Grand Duke of The Alantic States
Subject: War
Earl WD,
It is unfortunate that the following circumstances have arisen in a fashion that can only be solved with hostile action. The wishes of his majesty, The Grand Duke, are that your Great Friefdom be annexed into our lands. effective 00:34hrs (Zulu) we shall commence an invasion into your nation.
Signed his Grace,
Logan von Mains
1st Grand Duke of Alantica
City of Hessia, provisional capital of Hessia
The messenger knelled at his feet.
"Margrave Hermann, my lord wishes to inform you that the Hessian Legion is to mobilize and join with the 3rd Alantican Legion to form the Southern Army. Earl Partyhurdt commanding." he says.
Hermann von Molte motioned for the messenger to stand, then dismissed him. Molte turned and summoned his senior generals.
"Assemble the 14th,17th, and 18th Foot from the Eastern garrison. General Folke, you shall lead them and form the van guard of our Legion."
"Yes my lord."
"General Kelman, you shall take the 1st Auxiliary Cavalry, and the 1st,4th and 21st Foot, you will march south a join the border brigades. That will give a total of 18 battalions of infantry, and 5 of cavalry. Your force will be the main column."
"Yes my lord."
"General Freidmann, you shall command the reserve division and protect my camp."
"Yes my lord."
Alantican- West Dhakan border
00:35hrs (Zulu)
The pounding of feet could be heard for miles as the advancing legions of the Alantican Southern army pushed southward. Its cavalry raiding deep into the country side, burning farms and raids towns, but withdrawing away from enemy forts and major formations of troops.
8 miles from the border of South Alantica, on top a hill over looking a main road and straddling the river, the 3rd Legion stopped its advance and began the construction of a fort to guard its supply route.

The door banged open. The three men standing around the table in the back of the small room whipped around. One of them put a hand on his sword.
A small man burst in, puffing heartily. "Your grace!"
The tired-looking man with the hand on his sword took the hand away, and walked toward the smaller man. "Yes?"
The small man knelt, and his grace lifted him up immediately. "What is it, man?"
"Your grace, the Grand Duke of Alantica has broken the King's peace and invaded West Dhaka."
The Chancellor of the Exchequer closed his eyes, and kneaded his forehead with two fingers and a thumb. "Why?" he asked, disgusted.
"It seems ... it seems he was bored, your grace ..." The man looked very uncomfortable.
The Chancellor took a seat, and reached out a hand. One of the other men at the table hurriedly grabbed a wine cup that had been sitting on the table and put it into the chancellor's hand. Graz drank slowly, then looked up at the messenger.
"Bored?"
The messenger nodded silently.
"Bored? He was bored... wow."
One of the other men spoke up. "What are we to do, your grace?"
"What can we do? I suppose we could try to get the Archduke involved. He is the most powerful peer in the realm, after all."
"And if the Archduke does not respond?"
The Chancellor sighed heavily. "I have no idea, Jonh. It may be that West Dhaka has to burn ... I certainly do not want war with the Grand Duke. The Realm would not bear the King's forces intervening. It is too fragile as it is."
"So what do we do, your grace?"
"I want messengers from West Dhaka five times a day to let me know what is happening there. Prepare the Legion of the Hawk for battle, and have them on standby; just because I don't want to use them doesn't mean I won't."

Outside Ft. Louseville, 8 miles into West Dharkan territory. 2 miles from frontline.
The 5th Earl of Partyhurdt sat on his horse as the columns of infantry kicked large clouds of dust, the main paved road south was packed full of men on foot and some on horseback..
"This cursed road is delaying the advance." he remarked.
His aide, a young captain nodded in agreement.
A messenger on horse back raced north on the paved road and handed the Earl a folded letter.
"Count Wessman's compliments my lord." he said.
The Earl scanned through the message.
"The Count has engaged a small brigade of enemy infantry holding a city in the area. They are not withdrawing, he has committed the 8th Foot, and is requesting support." The Earl scribbled a response on the back of the paper.
"Tell him he shall get some support."
"Yes my lord"
The messenger galloped south toward the battle.

Castle Argon
Archduke Simon sat on his throne, attending to the day-to-day matters of the ArchDuchy.
As the topic moved from the Economy to International Affairs, several of his top Diplomats and Lieutenants scrambled in, breathless.
"Friends, what be wrong?" He asked in kind voice.
The head Lieutenant, who seemed to be the spokesman for the group stood forward.
"The Alantic States have begun a conquest of West Dhaka."
A deep frown crossed the Archduke's face. He seemed concerned, yet lethargic.
"Send them a message stating that should they proceed with their plans, they will meet us in battle. We consider this a threat to the safety of our nation."
The Head Diplomat quickly wrote a message and sent it to the Earl of Alantic States.
QUOTE
His Highness, The Earl of Alantic States,
Should you proceed with this invasion, you will be met with Welsh Spears. We consider this a threat to our security.
Signed,
The Archduke of Welsh Pirates

Brenchwell Hall, Martang
Grand Duke Brench of Martang glanced at the map. "West Dhaka? It's about time they fell... the eastern one's been gone for ages."
"You don't want to send a statement against Alantic States? Who says they'll stop there?"
"They have to march through the territory of Duke Graz first. And if they even go near them, there'll be hell to hear of it in the King's Court, he'll put up such a stink. No, we're quite safe from the Alantic mains. I'd much rather focus on consolidating our influence here."
"Very good, your grace," the messenger bowed and began to leave.
"Don't get me wrong, of course. I would like to follow these events closely! I am far from disinterested."

Castle Pendragon, Royal residence of the Grand Duke
The knocker fell against wood twice, the sound boomed through the halls.
"Enter." called a voice.
The large doors opened to reveal the throne room, red carpet leading to the throne on which sat a man, his thinning black hair covered by a white curled wig. He wore a double buttoned coat with gold epaulets. Medals and a sash with several badges decorated the outfit.
Sir Matthew, walked toward the grand duke, kneeling before the steps that lead to his grace. On either side of the knight, stood the various dukes, Marquees, and Earls that made up the royal court.
"Your majesty, his highness, the Archduke has delivered an ultimatum saying that we are to cease our conquest of West Dhaka."
Duke Logan rose and clenched his fist, "Its easy to say such nonsense when your lands amount to half of their lands, yet when you have to deal with the cramped territories we have, you would understand the need to expand quickly."
The duke waved at the knight, "Assemble the Imperial General Staff." he ordered.
The knight bowed and departed.
Castle Pendragon, War room
"We had assumed that the Welsh would do such a move, West Dhaka is on their border and the loss would be put us on their border. The only advantage we have is the distance required to meet us in the frontiers of Dhaka." summarized General Mills.
"What about a sea invasion?" asked Duke Logan starring at the maps.
"We doubt they could reach to far, even with Dhakan ports, they could attack South Alantica, but North Alantica may be to far, Alexandria and Rolin are out of Reach." answered Duke Ian.
"If Graz attacked us they could hit Rolin and Alexandria though and fighting a two front war would be disadvantage to us."
"So our best bet is to take as much territory and get peace before they can bring up the Welsh to support them, they will have longer supply lines, that delay the main forces."
"If Graz attacks us perhaps the land of Martang will ally with us, that would take some heat off us from the north if conflict arises."
"Then we shall go ahead with Plan XXV." declared Duke Logan.

Goddamnit!
We need to prepare & now. Main's troops are advancing towards the Alsace river. Thankfully Welsh Pirates & Graz have interviened. With their combined forces, the Grand Duke will be crushed. I have already set people to defend our great fief.
I want our knights ready to battle.
I hope this works out...........

[Note] I'm changing the technology level from Medieval to pre-industrial. This way our armies can move greater distances and I think its easier to act out battles with breech-loading rifles and artillery. Railroads are also available.[/Note]
Along the River Alsace
The massed imperial batteries of the 3rd Legion fired in thunderous volleys. Shells screamed through the air and explosions ripped into the city of Covington on the river front. Gun crews serviced their units with practiced ease. The headquarters of Count Wessman sat atop one of the hills on the north side of the river.
Count Wessman and Colonel Ludbrick, the count's adviser watched the bombardment through a pair of field glasses.
"The enemy is dug inside the city streets, they intend to fight for the city sir." noted Ludbrick.
"Then we shall drive them from the city with our superior soldiers."
"My lord, it would be a disadvantage for us to move our soldiers into the narrow streets of the city, I think that if we swing the 20th and 22nd around that hill over yonder, we could cut the rails to the city from the south and force a surrender."
"Colonel don't be naive, a siege will delay us and give the Welsh time to bring their armies into the field. Notify the engineers to prepare pontoon bridges for the crossing."
Col. Ludbrick sighed, and said, "Yes my lord."
The next morning
The early morning fog obscured the men in their blue uniforms as they rushed across the pontoon bridges and others sailed in large barges pulled by tug boats. The first shots were from the started sentries manning the outpost on the city docks, then a more active series of popping replaced the first cracks of fire.
The first wave of the 3rd Legion rushed forward, firing as one group advanced, then the second group rushing forward as the first reloaded.
Private Martain felt his Springfield kick against his shoulder, an enemy soldier shrieked and fell. Martain ejected the spent cartridge and pushed a new shell into the breech.
"Come on 55th. Follow me!" shouted Major Olson, waving his sword in the air to rally the blue masses of men.
However flames were coming the buildings now as Dhakan soldiers fired from cover, the blue ranks, fell as if scythed. Wounded cried for help and the survivors crouched low behind fences and inside doorways.
Martain stared at the twitching bodies laying in the street, 'This isn't how we fight.' he thought 'Where is the massed cavalry charges that break the lines of rifleman. Where is the glamor that their was in the last war,' his thought was cut short by a bullet ricocheting off the door frame and shattering the large pane of glass in the front window.
'This war is something different from what we used to fight, that's for sure. And I don't much care for it.' he thought.

A messenger arrives
Sir, they have reached the river Alsace. So far they are loosing in Covington.
Generals, come here.
Generals: Yes Earl!
Earl Jacob Rollo: I think if we win the city, we can encroach on Hessia Or South Atlantica. There is a group of foothills in Hessia, called the Applachians we can take cover in. We need to do anything, anything
Colonel John Guersney: What if they notice?
Earl Edward Rollo: They wont. Before the land had no owner, I secretly commanded citizens to dig underground tunnels into Hessia, leading right up to the capitol. While most soldiers are fighting on the ground, We are fighting a war of intelligence. I have several leeches in Main's court.
Colonel John Guersney: I see, but wouldn't he find out sooner or later? Too add on to your previous suggestion, I think if we amass troops in the Appalachians, we can attack the city Of Crecy in Hessia.
Earl Jacob Rollo: True. I havent figured a plan for that.
Colonel Ian Locke: What if Mains has infiltrated our Court?
Earl Jacob Rollo: Well, i'll purge the court then.
Things were looking ok for now.

The Twins, Khralos, Graz
"Milord Chancellor, we must act to stop this from becoming a full-fledged civil war!" complained the Dhakan emissary.
"You realize that this was a personal feud between the Grand Duke and the Earl, your grace?" the messenger from the Alantic States said firmly. "The Archduke is the one who has escalated the conflict."
"The Archduke is a good king's man. He is preserving his territorial integrity while also attempting to preserve the king's peace," said the Welsh diplomat.
Oliver, the Duke of the Graz and Chancellor of the Exchequer, looked even more tired than before. "Blood in the streets?" he asked quietly. "Whatever happened to cause this tragedy?"
A clamor broke out as representatives competed to answer the chancellor's question. After a minute, the chancellor raised a hand. "I have received no answer as to what the Grand Duke of Martang is going to do about this. Therefore, I have no choice but, for the safety of my own realm, to not respond in force. The Legion of the Hawk will be deployed to West Dhaka, but everyone else will remain at home."
---
Three days later, Ascalon, Mainz, Alantic States.
The viscount Laughtry, commander of the Legion of the Hawk, looked down on the town. "He's here?"
The scantily clad spy before him replied with a small laugh. "Oh, he's here," she said.
Laughtry decided he didn't want to know how she knew. "Alright." He turned to his men. "This man is an important informant and politician in the Kingdom. If we take him, we learn much of the Grand Duke's intentions, and may perhaps be able to solve this conflict by compromise. This need not escalate."
"Glory to the Kingdom!" cried one of the soldiers. The Legion of the Hawk echoed him, and began walking forward in three resplendent lines of blue and gold.
The beat of their hooves was accentuated by the clink and clank of their breastplates, and their plumes flashed bright white in the midday sun. Their walk increased to a trot, the three banners of the Legion flapping in the wind. Blue pennants flew from their light lances. The trot increased to a canter as they were able to see the windows of the town clearly. The line splintered; one third to either side spurred to a gallop as the viscount raised his saber, and began to flank the town.
Several windows exploded with bursts of smoke and muzzle flashes, but not one of the Legionnaires was hit, so hurried was the enemy fire. The viscount lowered his sword, and the Legion's speed increased to charge pace, their line narrowing with the viscount in the lead, the banners following him, the rest of the cavalry galloping four abreast down the main street.
Then Hell broke loose. The windows on either side erupted in musket flashes. At point-blank range, they could not help finding their mark. The horsemen dropped their resplendent lances and pulled forth their pistols, firing into the windows. The sound of screaming, gunshots, and breaking glass along with whimpering steeds was deafening. The enemy came streaming out of the buildings carrying impromptu weapons.
The viscount shouted "Glory to the Kingdom!" and hurled himself into the midst of the enemy, striking down at them from on high with terrible blows from his saber that severed hands and split skulls. Several blows glanced off his breastplate; his horse danced, kicked and bit to attempt to avoid being crippled, and his men took up the call. But they were being killed.
He felt himself falling, and turned around in the saddle in time to slash the neck of a man who had stabbed his horse's leg, slitting the hamstring. The back leg faltered; he was falling. He slung a leg over the falling animal and landed ably on his feet, slashing around him with his saber, roaring at the top of his lungs to attempt to scare his foes. He saw his men being pulled off their horses, and tears flowed down his face.
Then the flankers, lances couched, crashed home. The enemy, so courageous, panicked as first their back ranks were run through with lances, then others were shot at point-blank range by blasting pistols. The Legionnaires, scenting victory, drew their straight-bladed cavalry swords and clove into the enemy. The militia fled, running for the buildings. Many did not make it. others barricaded themselves inside, and teams of ten Legionnaires would force the door down and shoot the men inside. No mercy was allowed, for treachery was expected. At some point in the sacking, a fire got started, and it spread quickly. Men came streaming out of one house as a smoke pillar began to rise from it, and surrendered.
It took all afternoon, and by the end of it, a man in soiled finery was dragged to the place where the viscount was seated in a chair dealing with prisoners. He looked up from a merchant who was promising the viscount riches beyond his imagination if he would only let him go. The sergeant holding the new man nodded. The viscount waved the merchant away, and the new interest was brought before him.
"You are Danius?"
The man hesitated. "I am."
"Good." He looked at the sergeant. "Get everything you can out of him."
"Aye, milord."
"What of the others?" asked one of the men, gesturing to a mob of peasants who had been the main group of the militia.
"Oh, they merely did their duty. And in return, their town was burned. Let them go."

The High Tower Of Rollo
A messenger arrives
Sir, Sir the.....du..ke...has sent....his.....forces......over......
He has? This is brilliannt. But lets not take our chances. I think going to attack Crecy in the night when everyone is sleeping. That way we have a better chance of winning.
A colonel speaks up
Sir, the 1st Dhakan Army division is currently making longbows. We have set up headquarters right above Crecy, in the Applachians. It seems as though Grand Duke Mains only has crossbows to defend with. We are heavily outnumbered is my fear.
Earl Rollo: I understand. We must make haste, not waste.
Applachian foothills
Two days later, 3:45 AM PST
*bang* *bang*
Sir John Longbaker was Knight in the 1st Dhakan Army
He was marching slowly in the Applachians, down to Crecy. Flags of purple, gold & blue were streaming. The soldiers were quiet, knowing that their lives depended on skill.
Every moment he felt on edge, wondering what would happen. Then they are at the edge of Crecy, finally after waiting so long. He knew this was life or death. Then they started firing their arrows. It was daybreak and the sun was rising. As the sun rose, the sky was blackened by a sea of arrows.
In all directions people were screaming, mothers laying on their dead children, hit by arrows. People were jumping out of windows, committing suicide, trying to escape.
John felt somewhat guilty about this, but knew he was helpless. Then the soldiers marched, trying to desperately attacked, but all so tired and ill prepared.

Castle Argon
In the Court Hall, Archduke Simon sat at the end of a table with all his Ministers flanking him. According to a recently arrived messenger, Alantic States had not responded, but had begun pushing further into West Dhaka.
"I am about to declare a state of war," said Simon, "Does anyone have any recommendations?"
The Minister of War, or Minister Edward, stood up and laid the plans before the Court.
"This is a war that will be fought on Dhakan Turf. None the less, we will be defending our borders and enforcing our ports. We will send 10,000 Knights to reinforce the River Alsace. From there we will push the Alanticnans back into Alantica and seize some territories as a warning."
"I would like to put this to vote," said Archduke Simon, "All in favor?"
All hand went up,
Simon turned to Edward and said "You know your duty. Carry out the will of the court."
With that the Court adjourned.

King Arcturus Mengsk of Smurfosity listened to the report of his ministers.
"The Nation of Alantic States has declared a state of war upon West Dhaka, His forces push into the region daily. The Dhakan Military has not responded effectively to the attack. By my estimate, they shall fall within a week." Reported Secretary of War Jim Rainer.
"We have declared neutrality in the conflict, as you commanded, Good Sire, we have not mobilized in any way. We are a peaceful nation, and as you yourself said, we must remain so." Reported Lady in Waiting, and Diplomat Sarah Kerrigan.
"Never did I think that I would have to make a situation that could effect the world in my reign. How should we respond?" Asked King Mengsk
"We must remain loyal to our allies. Alantic States needs our help. Our support could gain us a lot of land, good lord." Rainer, commented, rubbing his hands together for no apparant reason.
"I agree, we must come to our ally's aid. We await your decision." Kerrigan Commented.
"Very well. Muster the Sons of Korhol!"
(Can anybody name the computer game all the names were taken from? It may be a little old for some of the younger people here to remember. I bet Alantic knows...)

Castle Pendragon, North Alantica
Duke Ian von Kresser, chief of staff of the Alantican army surveyed his newest reports of action on the southern front and the eastern front.
"The Graz has attacked from Moz, across the Gulf into Mainz, we need to activate the Mainz Corp. and push them into Dhakan territory. I've ordered the Hessian Cavalry corp to begin an offensive into Clemsford, the new territories are only lightly populated and they can't have rail in the area yet to move mass numbers of troops. The open ground will give a battle of maneuver there."
Field Marshal Bismark, the newly appointed commander of the Eastern Army; comprising the Mainz Corp., the 5th and 6th Alantican Legions as well as the Hessian Cavalry corp, nodded his head.
"Yes my lord, the Eastern Army will begin a two pronged attack into both Mann and Chelmsford. The Hessians will push south into Chelmsford and cut the link to Mann, while the 6th Legion attacks from Hessia into Mann, the 5th will support the Hessians. General Conrads, Mainz corp will push south into Mann, we should overwhelm the east before they move large formations there."
In foothills of Southern Mainz
The blue clad riflemen crouched low in the overgrown thickets, the small troop of cavalry reined in and dismounted their horses. They led them to the pond to drink while their comrades covered them with carbines.
Lt. Wilson drew his saber, and shouted the order to fire. A Graz knight, saw the shining metal and fired. Killing the officer. From within the brush came the reports of 30 men scattered in the woods, two of the knights watering their horses dropped, and one of guards dropped as well.
Now fully alert the Graz knights fired into the woods while they mounted and galloped away from the Alantican scouts.
"They must be patrols for their rear guard, they can't be far." noted Sgt. Killroy. "We should keep moving, don't yet the invaders escape from our land without paying for what they did to that town."
The infantry filed into column and marched south, behind them the 30,000 men of the Mainz Corp began to converge at the suspected location of the Graz forces.

Note: ill get land as soon as i know how much money i have, until then this will show my intentions lol
Plains of Tanale, Heart of Alantic Land
The field was beautiful, tall grass stretched as far as the eye could see. The soft breezes flowing across the land in ripples as waves on a distant ocean. The sky had been bright, but was now darkening with cloud cover, deep rays of sunshire could be seen penetrating to the ground. The scene now almost seemed unnatural.
The ocean was pounding against the beaches, their sound echoed in the far distance.
Mains stood, his personal bodyguard at his side, he was looking around the field, wondering how such a place still existed in these times of bloody war. He began to walk forward, and when his guard began to follow he stopped.
"Do not worry, I know he will not appear if I am not alone."
"Are sure my leige?" said the larger, more decorated of the 5 men standing behind him.
"Absolutely, survey the hills to the north, we cant let the enemy know what we are doing in the Plains of Tanale"
"Yes sir..." and they departed
Mains walked foward slowly into the grass, he had reached the middle of the plain when a clicking noise startled him. He wheeled around but saw nothing. As he turned back the way he had been originally facing a man now stood but 10 feet in front of him. Mains made no sign of startle.
The man was clad in a long black robe, which tuched the ground, but seemed almost suspended in the air. The man's face couldnt be seen as it was shrouded in shadow. Long green streaks of silken fabric hung from his shoulders. On the right shoulder the Green, Red, and yellow mark of the Osceean.
Mains had found who he had summoned.
"So i trust you recieved my message, being that you are here."
"Yes my old friend. What has beckoned you call me once again to this broken land?" His voice was commanding, but not too deep. They stood in silence for a moment.
"I have declared war on the Dhaka, as i trust you already know"
"Yes, I do. You of all people understand we would not leave without seting up lines of information. I also know of your plight as the kings forces threaten to join your enemy."
"I see, then you must know why i need Osceea's aide once more."
Another short pause followed before the man spoke again. With a sigh he answered.
"I trust you know what you are unleashing. We separated ourselves from this warring world to try to heal our bloodthirsty spirit. I fear this war could bring out that side of my people again..."
"Yes. But do not occupy your mind once more with the past. The Massacre of Fidel... That was not your fault."
"Wasn't it, because i distincly remember the screams of those helpless women and children... No matter. I have been wanting to return for some time anyways. You see things are very dull on the islands."
"I can imagine..." They stood again in silence.
As he trurned to stride away he made one last comment. "Tell everyone, Osceea will come to Alantic States aide. It was good to see you gain Mains"
"and you Gusky. There will be a war meeting in 3 days to plan your attack!" He nearly yelled this as Gusky was nearly out of earshot.
Mains heard a bustling behind him, 3 of his guard ran to his side. Panting they got out only a few words.
"On the Shore... Black Ships... Green Flags... Who are they!?"
Mains smiled. "They are the key to this war..."
-----------------------------------------------
On the deck of an Osceean ship a tall man clad in Black and green armor stood at the very bow of the ship, peering out at the shore ahead. The Osceeans were being summoned for war, and they had nothing but excitement raging within them. The man's fingers felt the the hardend steel sword at his side, he couldnt wait to use it once more.
Another man, wearing tight black clothes with leather armor stapped over top came and kneeled at the side of the other. Bowing his head he spoke quickly and distictly.
"Lord Marxon, I have sent the Ravens carrying your message to Alantics enemies. I expect they shall recieve them soon."
Not turning away the man answered. "Very good Ranger, make sure the Stalkers know not to kill their leaders, only report their reactions."
"I will remind them sir." and he bolted away
Marxon released the hilt of his sword and placed one hand on the ships railing. A wicked smile was on his face. He couldnt wait to kill once again.

Along Alsace River, 1 mile west of Covington. West Dhaka
"My lord, had we attacked in the beginning here they wouldn't have guns and men on the hill here, now the attack on the flank is all the harder. They can observe our moves before we make them." remarked Colonel Ludbrick.
"Even so colonel, now we must cut those rails to prevent the Welsh from arriving in the town." said Count Wessman.
"We should send for help from the main force of the 3rd Legion sir, they are further south into West Dhaka then we are, they could hit the city from the rear."
"Nonsense, the Earl of Partyhurdst doesn't need to be bothered."
Colonel Ludbrick turned to watch as a new battalion of infantry landed on the south bank and charged into the woods. Heavy smoke was rising from the woods as the action heated up. As during the opening battle in Covington, the fresh troops were courages and kept good order in their attack, but the volume of fire from breech loading rifles was to great and these attacks would eventually halt and dig in.
Covington, West Dhaka
42nd Street
Corporal Martin raised his mirror to peek over the rampart of the trench, a Dhakan bullet shattered it a second later. Martin spat in disgust, the 2nd Division of the 3rd Legion was all to eager to rush into the city in the beginning and yet the 55th Foot was only 5 blocks into the city, the furthermost advance having gained only 9 blocks.
Captain Sir Lawrence Sinclair, a good officer and a brave one, with the rank of Knight of Honor, came down the dirty trench line, he stopped near Martin.
"You there Corporal, was Sgt. Mathias in your squad?"
"Yes my lord, we is the Squad leader"
"Well hes been promoted to replace Lt. Mills, and you are now the sergeant." Cpt. Sinclair handed a pair of three white inverted stripes to Martin.
"Yes sir I shall do my best." shouted Martin.
"Good, then get your squad ready for a raid into the enemy trench."
Martin left the officer and moved further down the line gathering the spread out members of his squad. With the 14 men now together, Martin placed a whistle in his mouth, he blew into it. The signal was answered by rifles popping from the rest of the line, while Martin's squad climbed over the ladders into the broken stone that was once a post office.
Martin slammed himself into a slab of stone that jutted up out of the ground, he swung around the stone and fired a shot towards the enemy line. Martin ejected the shell and pushed a new one into the rear of the Springfield. Then he moved forward and dived into a shell hole that was full of stagnate water at the bottom. He crawled to the brim of the hole and rested his rifle on the dirt. He fired again.

Location: Alantic States-Road to West Dhaka
In a slow moving convoy, hundreds of knights, dressed in the customary Black and Silver of Mengsk moved along the road, making their way to West Dhaka to assist in the Holy Crusade taking place. At the head was the King's son Lord Grisham, fresh to the military world. Behind the column hundreds of Peasants hastily armed followed the real soldiers.
"Sons of Korhol! We have traveled here to support our allies! We must maintain the honor required of the King and the title of Korhol! We ride to West Dhaka, And war!" Lord Grisham shouted, rallying the troops. He proceeded with giving orders to his underlings while the troops cheered.
"Schnider-Take some scouts ahead to scout ahead for a good place to set up camp."
"Murdoch-Find some Alanticans, see if you can find somebody who can tell us the latest."
"Kerrigan-Stick with me."
The column moved on for about an hour, with little happeneing, until a mysterious man wearing no recognizable armour or uniform rode up to the Prince, and handed him a scroll, saying nothing. The Prince's questions were ingored, and the man rode away.
"I can put one into his horse, Sir! One Knight said, brandishing a bow."
"No, let him get away." The Prince opened the scroll.
It read:
QUOTE
"Lord Grisham-Your men ride to war, but not victory. I can change that. I place myself, and my men, and my fortune at your disposal. The Riders of Korhol have not always rode alone, we have come to your aid once before and vanished into darkness. We come to you now.
Sir Marklink
The Knights of the Five Kingdoms
The Prince crumpled the scroll and threw it into the dust. He knew about the Knights of the Five Kingdoms, who hadn't. The story was known to almost everybody. The Knights of the Five Kingdoms had come to his Father's aid all those years ago when he rode to war against the forces of the Kingdom of The Lightened Humanity. After the final battle, they betrayed and murdered most of the Sons of Korhol, turning Mengsk from the unparralled military power, into a nation where many women were widowed, and those who survived only stirred the pot of hatred of the Knights. The King swore vengance, and had searched for years, to no avail.
Then, a thought entered the mind of Lord Grisham, The Dhakans were obviously the decendants of the Knights! Lord Grisham decided to rally his men to this idea.
"Sons of Korhol! You have taken oaths, against the Knights of the Five Kingdoms, we ride now to fulfill them all!"
A great cheer arose from the men. This campaign had gone from a simple support of the state's allies, to a holy war against the Dhakans.
IC-The story is kind of lame, but it gets the point ago that the Dhakans are the mortal enemies of my people.

Castle Pendragon, North Alantica
The doors to the throne room opened and in came both King Arcturus and Chieftain Gusky II. The room was empty save for the royal guards and the three heads of state. The Alantican aristocrats had been cleared from the room to give the leaders privacy.
Duke Logan I, rose from his throne and came to greet them. "Greetings my friends. I so glad that you could give the support I need. I assume we shall be hearing of Martang's entry into the war soon as well. But until then I propose we discuss our plans."
King Arcturus nodded his head, "I've dispatched troops already to assist your Eastern Army against the enemy in Mann and Chelmsford, I think the war will be won soon enough."
Gusky spoke up, "We are establishing a new domain for our people but we too shall join the crusade soon."
Logan chuckled, "I think that since this dispute has gained the attention of the Kingdom in a whole I should change the reason for our cause. We need to win the hearts of the people and the few remaining neutral powers. And I have a plan for that." Logan signaled to the chief guard.
The guard left the room and summoned in Field Marshal Bismark, the new Chief of Staff of the military and now the Knight of One, the most powerful fighter in the duchy. Bismark carried a box of a triangular shape. Bismark presented the box to the two allied leaders, King Arcturus took the box and opened the lid. Inside was folded piece of red cloth.
Gusky stepped forward and took the cloth and began to unfold it, the unfolding revealed red and gold, a green wreath, and the crest of the Eternal King, David I.
"You couldn't mean..." stuttered Arcturus
"But he does," said Gusky, "We plans to wage a full civil war and remake the Kingdom back to the times before the dark ages."
Logan smiled, "The people need a strong leader they can see, and we the winners of this struggle shall do that, we can rebuild the Kingdom into its former superpower self, full of subjects and with a strong central government, and a military that kept the outsiders out."
Logan raised his hands into the air, "I hereby form the United Nobles of the Kingdom. Let us make the Kingdom again."

"Men shall we start the battle In Crecy, said the Earl
Colonel Adrian Hawks spoke up. No. We have reported the Mainz, Smurfosity & Osceean armies are heding towards us In Chelmsford & Mann. We must move in troops are distract the armies.
How shall we do that, asked Earl Edward Rollo
We need to hold the river Alsace and build up our defences. Right now our troops move towards Crecy. Tommorow, the real fight begins, said Chieftain Rick Churchill said.
Cadbury, Chemsford- 2:00 PM
I SEE THE ARMIES!!!!!!, exclaimed Lieutanant John Ackerson from Stevens Point.
Duke Mains, Eastern Army, along with support was heading to Chelmsford. All cavalry commence. We will win, John thought to himself. The plan was perfect.
The cavalry would charge from the hills as soon as they could see the armies on the horizon. Archers, armed with longbows were on Mason's hill and Stevens point, firing just before. Peasants had spent the day working defences along the hills and ditches for the soldiers to fire in.

Crossing into Graz, on the road to Khralos
The retreat of the Legion of the Hawk following the capture of the Alantican official had been mostly uneventful. Except for one minor ambush, in which two knights had been killed, very little incident had taken place.
The Viscount led nearly 1,500 of his Duke's finest men in retreat, and it was galling him. His grace had estimated no more than cursory defense forces would be ready to protect the Grand Duke's land, but the Duke of the Alantic had planned well.
The official, whose name was Jean Pierre Bonefarte, was being escorted near the front of the column. Attempts to retrieve information from him had been, as of yet, extremely unfulfilling.
The Viscount did not want to use pain on the man, but it seemed that it would be the only option. It was up to his grace how the prisoner would be treated, and the Legion was making wonderful time.
----
Two days later
Duke Oliver turned away from the chair. "You maintain that he was bored ... you mean that's true?"
Bonefarte chuckled. "Indeed. His Grace is rather unsettled. He may grow bored of this war soon and pretend it never happened."
"Well, I know neither the Earl nor the Archduke will forget. Release him," he ordered his men.
"What?" the official was surprised.
"I'm releasing you," the Duke said to the man. "Go back to your Duke and ask him what it will take to end this war."

Defiance, Chelmford.
3rd Division of the Hessian Cavalry Corp.
The countryside was emptier than they could have imagined. the few towns were mostly townspeople, with no major roads and no railroads in the territory. The cavalry was now on the border between Chelmsford and the new Alantican territory of Osea. As predicted by the high command. The charge through Clemsford had now severed the southern half of Chelmsford and all of Mann off from West Dhaka.
On the grasslands 2 miles south of Mainz border with Chelmsford
The lines of blue infantry stretched for 2 miles in length, eight ranks deep per line. The infantry were protected by cavalry on both flanks and two lines of infantry behind the first line. further behind them lay the rifled cannons, and howitzers of the 5th Alantican Legion's artillery.
A Captain, a battery commander raised his voice.
"Cavalry charging> Distance 500 yards. Load Shrapnel!"
The guns crews went to work on their guns. The loader hefted the shell from its caisson and slammed it into the open breach, the rammer shoved his ramrod up the breech to insure the shell was all the way forward. The breech was shut. The sergeant holding the lanyard, waited.
"Fire!" shouted the battery commander.
The sergeant pulled the lanyard and the gun rolled back as the recoil blasted it backwards. The shell sailed over the charging mass of horseman and exploded above them, shards of lead and steel rained down on the mounted men. Many horses whined and fell, some of thee riders slipped from their saddles.
The line moved forward ignoring the burst of fire from the guns behind the legion of Alanticans. The Infantry line leveled their rifles and rifled a volley into the galloping horses. A scythe ran through the ranks as bullets hit their marks. The charge broke as a second volley ran through the confused masses of men and animals. As they withdrew, more artillery fire rained on them, but more fell on the hill they retreated toward, shelling the defenses of several areas with solid shot.
"Should we commence the attack sir?" Asked General Briggs, commanding the 1st Division of the Legion.
"No we shall subdue them with the heavy guns. The 6th Legion and the Hessian Cavalry have cut the link to West Dhaka, it is a matter of time until these forces run out of supplies to continue their fight." responded Marquee Danial, the Legion commander.

I'm confused about this thing's time period.

Posted by: Smurfosity Nov 1 2008, 01:09 AM
If it is 1600s, I guess we have guns, artillery, gunpowder, large scale kings, rather then small fiefs, an end to feudalism, and a bunch of other things... I would say that this is 1400s, but I have been wrong before... Once.

Mains said something about pre-indistrial, as to the exact time im not sure. But breach loading muskets, artillery, and railroads seem to be whats available. I plan on mixing both gunpowder and more traditional midieval weapons in my army. I would suspect being pre-industrial that a longbow would have a greater distance than an early musket anyway.

I was meaning the period before the Great War, before bolt actions and machine guns, but during the time when rifles and cavalry were still in effect. Think the later 1800's

I assumed by preindustrial you meant the 1600s; 1800s is, I believe, postindustrial.

Those were my thoughts. I figured we had just better than muzzle loading muskets, cannons, and railroads. I wasnt thinking 1800s at all. More 1600s, 1700s area.
A mix could work. But it has to be just after medieval era, where they were using both still.

Castle Pendragon
The staff officers moved blocks of wood, representing troops, across the board. Here and there an officer would hand a message to chief of staff and he'd order the correct changes.
The Grand Duke, as well as the King Arcturus and chieftain Gusky surveyed the the action from the raided balcony.
"What should be the main target of my invasion?" asked the Ocsean leader.
"The main force should attack into Chelmsford and link up with my 6th Legion and the Hessian cavalry, but send a small force to Mann as well." replied the Duke. he turned to King Arcturus, "Those troops you sent to us, the one led by your son, direct them to invade Mann. My forces will continue to assist in both territories, but the main effort is in West Dhaka for us."
The duke watched as two more legions of the 9 nine active formations in the Alantican Army were moved into West Dhaka, they were to attack along the western shore and turn the flank if possible. Other officers moved figures representing the Welsh Army arriving in Covington and the surrounding area.
"When we have taken the eastern territories, I want you to concentrate on Graz, keep him from attacking us in the south, A show of force by your nations may drive Martang into our camp, all we have to show him is that he isn't alone." said the duke.
The Oscean chieftain faced Mains, " Lord Marxon shall move immediately. We will crush the enemy. Heil to the Old Kingdom!"
